I’m on a short term vaca to the homeland (Montreal). I don’t have any photos to post (yet) but I thought I would showcase some stills from arguably one of my favourite movies of all time, An American in Paris. I think I’ve always been wildly in love with Gene Kelly. (Doesn’t he remind you of the Sartorialist here?)

One of the most provocative scenes is from the beginning of the film, where Leslie Caron’s character Lise (Gene Kelly’s love interest) is introduced. She dances in a series of scenes, each designed with its own bold colour palette.

The whole movie has some of the most amazing costumes (especially the final masquerade ball, where everyone is dressed only in black and white), but there was something about the monochromatic sets from this scene that stood out for me. If you haven’t seen it yet, then I strongly suggest you do. It’s one of Gene Kelly’s best.
